Final Presentation

  1. Molly, the thing that most impressed me about your presentation was the fact that you have been able to build on the technology you already use in your classroom. This class had definitely changed the preconceived notions that we all had about bringing technology into the classroom.

  2. Molly,
I really enjoyed watching your presentation. First, it made me realize how much older I am from you. LOL. Second, I love how you included applications in your presentation that I have never heard. It made me look up the applications myself. Lastly, you were able to show how you use technology in your classroom. It sounded like you were already using technology, but from this class you were able to introduce more technology to all students of different levels. Great job!

  3. Molly, Great presentation. I like how you started out with the types of technology we used as children. I can remember liking to talk on the phone on the landline and using Aol and playing the games. You did a good job talking about how you use technology everyday and in your classroom. I want to look at the classroom countdown app as it looks like a good classroom management app. I also feel remind and google calendar are very helpful with organization in our daily life as a teacher. I love how you explained how you integrated technology into your classroom . Awesome job. :)

  4. I love the whiteboard app you talked about. Working technology into a special needs classroom must be tricky but it sounds like you have found using it can make your day easier. It's comforting to hear that even people like yourself that grew up using technology are still a little nervous about incorporating it into the classroom.

  5. Really cool that all your students get chromebooks! I thought the same thing about this class at first - that technology was going to take the social aspect away from the students. I like how you pointed that out! But, technology can do the complete opposite!

  6. I think you have added technology in your classroom perfectly. Adding more wasn't the key, it is how we are using it that makes it more effective and you have nailed it. I agree that I thought it would be isolating and I LOVE your visual for this point. Thank you for the Mira tip. I will have to check that out. I also love hearing that your older students are enjoying teaching!! How cool! And how true that it is more fun to teach what you know rather than "show what you have learned". (I also love that timer. Found it as a result of this class but it is a keeper on my phone!) Great job.

  7. Hi Molly!
I have to agree, when I thought about integrating technology into my classroom I thought about how much it would take away from the communication and social skills of my children. I am glad you were also surprised and saw that the children were using technology, communication and still gaining social skills !
Also the countdown app, such a gift! We use it a lot in our classroom too. Great job!

  8. Molly, great presentation! I can totally see how this class has changed your mindset on using technology in the classroom.

At the beginning, I thought the same thing. That all my students would be off in their own corners and working on their own. And yikes - I did not like this idea. They need to be working on social skills and interacting. And to our surprise, when using technology the right way students are working together and developing social skills.

  9. It sounds like you were already pretty tech savvy but that you were surprised and happy when introducing technology in more of a interactive way. Great job!

  10. Ok Molly, thanks for making me feel so old! It is a bit harder to try to figure out how to incorporate the right kind of technology to meet all the various types of needs in special ed settings. I am going to explore the online white board you are using. Explaining answers is hard for my student as well, so this sounds great! I'm glad Children's Countdown works so well for you, it has been a lifesaver for me as well! Fantastic job on your presentation!

  11. Molly like you mentioned this class really helped to change my thinking and use technology I was already using in my classroom in new and exciting ways as well. I also thought that if I added more lessons and activities using technology into the day that it could take away from social interaction but it was great that we both learned ways to use technology so this doesn't happen. We can now use it to enhance discussion and communication instead of take away from it.

  12. Great presentation Molly! Sounds like you have found ways to incorporate even more technology into your classroom. I am going to check out the Mira app which sounds like such a good fit for some of your students since it helps them to explain their writing which may be a skill that is difficult for them otherwise. I also think it is great that you are going to have some older students create tutorials for younger students since we all know how much kids learn from each other. I am going to check out children's countdown app as I have been thinking how beneficial a visual timer could be for certain parts of our preschool day. I like that you point out how you can use the Remind app with your families. I like that you pointed out using it in a positive way to send a picture of a behavior chart when a student is having a good day. I need to check out google calendar too.

    1. No idea why this came up as unknown - it is from Chrissy Burns.

  13. Molly, It was interesting to hear that you grew up with having access to technology, yet were hesitant to use it in your classroom. It seems to me that by the end of the course you had developed confidence, and understanding of the use of technology in your classroom and students.
You have shown through the use of many apps that time management, communication, behavior management are important to you and you found the apps and "thinking outside of the box" you have implemented the apps in your daily activities to make your life and your students' lives easier.
    Great presentation.

  14. Molly,
Seeing that see through cord phone brought back memories! I had one of those and I also had my own land line. It is crazy how much times have changed. I love how you talked about the Mira Online Whiteboard. Isn’t it funny how we try an app that we think will benefit the students, but it ended up benefiting us more instead! Like you said BONUS! Google Calendar - AH-Mazing. Seriously the biggest game changer for me with this course. Thank you for sharing and well done!

  15. Great presentation, Molly! Glad to hear that you saw collaboration and social skills increase in your classroom with the careful introduction of technology, which is obviously something we worry about devices undermining. I also enjoyed the overview of helpful apps you found, and may have to add some of them (especially Mira) to my growth plan. Thank you!

  16. I enjoyed your presentation, Molly! I didn't have the chance to grow up with tech as you did other then a land line, I remember later on when the beepers came along- it was so fascinating to experienced that. Its also interesting how despite the fact that you grow up with technology you weren't sure or hesitant to use it in the classroom. It is hard to combine both for sure. Good job.

  17. I appreciated your concern for what your already tech savy classroom would look like if you added more ideas. Eventhough you had chrome books already, I had the same initial reaction of isolation as well. It was great to hear your positive reaction through this process. I enjoyed testing out remind and countdown clock also. Mira sounds like an interesting app to explore. It was great to hear that it helped diverse learners of different ages.

  18. Similarly, I was very concerned about all students isolating themselves to individual computer screens and lacking in student cooperation and socialization. It's nice to hear that you have tested some of these apps in your classroom and indeed witnessed that technology can provide an opportunity for cooperative learning. I look forward to checking out Remind and Classroom Countdown.
